Reset a user’s 2FA in Hyver

How administrators can reset two-factor authentication (2FA) for Hyver users.

Updated over 5 months ago

Overview

This article explains how Hyver administrators can reset 2FA for members, power users, or themselves — and how users can reset 2FA using a recovery code. Note: Admins can’t reset 2FA for other administrators. For that, support is required.

1. Understand who can reset 2FA

  • Admins can reset 2FA for members, power users, and themselves.

  • Admins cannot reset 2FA for other administrators.

  • Users can reset their own 2FA using a previously saved recovery code.

Note: If an admin needs to reset their own 2FA and can’t log in, they must contact CYE Support at [email protected].

2. Reset 2FA for a user

  1. Go to Settings > Members and Groups.

  2. Find the user in the members list.

  3. Click the three dots (ellipsis) next to their name.

  4. Select Reset 2FA.

Important: This option is only visible to Hyver administrators.

3. Confirm the reset

  1. A prompt appears asking for your Hyver password:

  2. Enter your password and click Continue.

Hyver will display a recovery code that is valid for 24 hours:

4. Share the recovery code with the user

  1. Click Done.

  2. The user receives an email about the reset — but the email does not include the recovery code.

  3. You must send the recovery code directly to the user (e.g., via email, Microsoft Teams, or another secure channel).

Important notes

  • Recovery codes expire after 24 hours.

  • Users can’t reset their 2FA without the code.

  • Reset links sent by Hyver don’t contain the recovery code — you need to share it manually.

Wrap-up / Next Steps

Resetting 2FA only takes a minute, but it’s important to securely share the recovery code so the user can complete the process. If you’re an admin and need help with your own 2FA, reach out to CYE Support for assistance.
