Switch Likelihood calculation versions in Hyver

How administrators can change the version used for calculating likelihood—and how it affects exposure.

Updated over 5 months ago

Overview

This article explains how to switch between different Likelihood calculation models in Hyver. The likelihood model determines the probability of a successful cyberattack. Combined with Cost of Breach, it powers Hyver’s Exposure calculation.

To get the most accurate exposure values, we recommend using Likelihood v2 together with Cost of Breach v2.

Formula reminder:
Exposure = Likelihood × Cost of Breach

Steps

  1. Open Likelihood Settings
Click the Settings icon in the top navigation bar, then select Likelihood.

  2. Select a version
Choose the Likelihood version you want to use:

    • Likelihood v2 – Default for new customers. Required for calculating Exposure v2.

    • Likelihood v1 – Available only for customers who started on this version.

  3. Click Save
Hyver will immediately apply the updated version across the platform.

TIP:
For the most accurate Exposure calculation, use Likelihood v2 and Cost of Breach v2 together.

What happens when you change versions

  • Calculations update immediately throughout Hyver, including dashboards and reports.

  • On the Mitigation Success Trends widget:

    • If you switch to Likelihood v2, Hyver recalculates exposure history from either the introduction of v2 or 12 months ago — whichever is more recent.

    • If using Likelihood v1, the graph displays data from the earliest exposure calculations or 12 months ago — whichever is more recent.

  • When both Likelihood v2 and CoB v2 are active, Exposure v2 is calculated and displayed, including benchmarking on the Risk Dashboard for:

    • Exposure

    • Cost of Breach

    • Likelihood

Compatibility notes

  • New customers (post–Likelihood v2) cannot access v1.

  • Older customers can switch between v1 and v2 freely.

  • If you use Likelihood v2 with Cost of Breach v1, you’ll still get an Exposure v2 value — but it won’t benefit from the added accuracy provided by maturity scoring in CoB v2.

Important notes

  • Changing versions doesn’t delete or overwrite existing findings or plans — only how risk and exposure are calculated.

  • Use caution when comparing historical data before and after switching versions.

Wrap-up / Next Steps

For the most accurate and actionable view of your cyber risk, use Likelihood v2 and Cost of Breach v2 together. If you’re transitioning from older models, review your dashboards and reports after switching to understand how exposure scores may shift.
