Working with Positions in the Mitigation Graph

Learn how to move, edit, and manage positions in the mitigation graph to organize and analyze attack routes.

Updated over 5 months ago

Overview

This article explains how to interact with positions — the nodes representing threats, assets, and intermediate points — in Hyver’s mitigation graph. You’ll learn how to rearrange, highlight, and manage positions to better understand attack routes and refine your risk model.

Moving Positions

To reposition any element in the graph:

  • Click and drag the position to where you want it.

  • The system automatically saves the new layout, including connected edges.

This helps you organize the graph visually in a way that makes sense for your analysis.

Managing Positions in the Graph

Right-click any position to open a context menu with the following options:

  • Highlight routes from this position to a business asset
Emphasizes all attack routes starting from the selected node and leading to one or more business assets.

  • Highlight routes to this position
Shows all incoming attack paths that lead to this specific position.

  • Create a route from this position
Allows you to draw a new edge (route) to another position and define a finding for it.

  • Clear Highlight
Removes any currently highlighted routes on the graph.

  • Edit this position
Opens editing options — for example, rename the position or convert it to an aggregated position.

  • Delete this position
Removes the position and any connected edges from the graph.

Clearing a Highlight

To stop displaying a highlighted route:

  1. Right-click the same position again.

  2. Select Clear Highlight.

This helps you declutter the view as you move between different parts of the graph.

Wrap-up / Next Steps

Managing positions gives you control over how the graph is structured and interpreted. Whether you're reorganizing for clarity or fine-tuning your attack route modeling, these tools help you make the graph work for your analysis style.

Next, explore how to use the graph filtering options or begin creating your own mitigation graph.
