Root Cause Timeline - Executive Summary Widget

Learn how the Executive Summary translates technical dashboard telemetry into a reporting-ready narrative of your risk posture.

Overview

The Executive Summary widget automatically generates a narrative explaining the context behind organizational security data. It translates shifts in security posture into executive language tailored for CISOs, CFOs, and boards, focusing on business impact and organizational risk.

What the Executive Summary Shows

The Executive Summary provides a curated view of data from across the dashboard. It focuses on two high-level elements:

1. The Metric Snapshot

At the top of the widget, the narrative is anchored by a snapshot of your four core metrics. This provides an immediate view of your current status compared to the previous equivalent period:

  • Current Status: The bold value represents the metric's value for the currently selected timeframe.

  • Trend Indicators: Colored arrows indicate the health of the metric. Green represents a favorable shift (Risk decreased or Maturity increased), while Red indicates an unfavorable shift.

  • Delta Value: The figure on the right quantifies the absolute change relative to the previous period.

2. Narrative Interpretation

  • The narrative integrates key risk metrics with specific operational events, such as remediation cycles, infrastructure overhauls, or vendor risk adjustments, enabling a single-pass review of the period's significant developments.

Dashboard Interactions

  • Time-Series Sync: Selecting a specific point on the Trend Analysis widget triggers the Executive Summary to update its narrative to reflect that specific timeframe.

Wrap-up/Next Steps

The Executive Summary is designed to move you from Data to Decision. Once reviewed, you can:

  • Export for Reporting: Use the narrative directly in stakeholder presentations to explain risk trajectories.

  • Investigate Anomalies: If the summary identifies an unexpected driver, use the Major Days or Root Cause widgets to drill into the underlying technical triggers.
